KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic offences involving motorcyclists dipped significantly during the Chinese New Year holidays compared to last year's festive period.
Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department director Mohd Zaki Ismail said a four-day operation to weed out errant motorcyclists saw only 236 summonses issued compared to 1,130 issued during the same period last year.
"This shows that motorcyclists in Kuala Lumpur have a better awareness of road laws and that deserves praise," he told reporters following an operation at the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza on Wednesday night. "Tonight we issued 164 summonses for various offences while four notices were issued for seizure, inspection and .
"We had a total of 93 personnel members from JPJ with the National Anti-Drug Agency, Environment Department and Immigration Department involved in the operation," he said."We checked the vehicle road tax and found that the last digit of the number plate differed from the road tax disc. "The man claimed that he did not realise that the number plate did not match his road tax and claimed he had been riding with that number plate for over a year," he said, adding that the person would be called in for an interview soon.
