Friday.It's a welcome second chapter to a year that started with highs and then devastating lows: Ravens destroyed both of the newly arrived eggs in the eagles' first clutch of 2026, eggs that had been in the nest for only a matter of days, on Jan. 30. At the time, Friends of Big Bear Valley, the organization that operates the nest camera that watches the eagles and any eggs in the nest, suggested there might be time for Jackie to"reset" this season and prepare for a second clutch.That hope clearly proved prophetic, though nature knowledge, science, and history were at play, not prophesy:"She has done it before," shared the FOBBV representative Jan. 30., the acclaimed eagle booster and wildlife champion synonymous with Big Bear nature stewardship, passed away in early February, making the arrival of a second clutch especially poignant, and deeply meaningful, for the fans, activists, and wilderness supporters who feel her profound absence.
