WASHINGTON, March 14 — US President Joe Biden will announce an executive order today that reinforces background checks for gun buyers in what the White House is promoting as the most comprehensive policy the president can enact without Congress.
Biden plans to discuss the order on Tuesday, the White House said, when he will meet with gun violence victims in Monterey Park, California, where a shooter opened fire in a dance hall on Jan. 21, killing 11 people and injuring nine others. A Reuters/Ipsos poll last year found 84 per cent of respondents supported background checks for all firearms sales and 70 per centbacked red flag laws. That survey was taken immediately after a gunman opened fired at a school in Uvalde, Texas, killing 19 students and two teachers.
