Best in Class: Top 5 luxury electric vehicles for 2023 — via drivingdotca LuxuryVehicles electricvehicles
BMW iX M60
excels on two very different fronts. It is a full-sized crossover with all of the flexibility demanded by a family of five and it consumes it electrons judiciously when out cruising. However, it’s also it’s a 610-hp monster that’s more than capable of strafing a twisty back road with the very best sports car.
The 111.5 kWh battery powers two electric motors that twist out a max of 610 hp in Sport mode and 811 lb-ft of instant-on torque when launch control is engaged. Part of the M60’s reason for dual-personality is found in the drive modes. The mortal modes reduce output, which maximizes the driving range; Sport mode accentuates the positive — the 2,659-kg M60 picks up its side sills and charges to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
Of course, the ride and handling has been massaged equally well. The M-enhanced air suspension and adaptive dampers work with firmer anti-roll bars to banish body roll without sacrificing the overall ride quality. The use of four-wheel steering then sees the front wheels point the M60 into a corner with the rear-steer making it pivot in with much more authority. The flip side is the rear steer also brings a shorter turning circle in a parking lot.
The interior continues the promise with crystal-like controls on the centre console and seat adjusters adding some eye-catching content. The highlight, however, is the single glass panel that houses the instrumentation and latest iDrive 8 multimedia system. Part of its appeal is the panel can be whatever the driver wants, as both sides are fully customizable.
