The Best Friends Animal Society is helping relocate dozens of pets from Los Angeles to Utah to escape the devastating wildfires.
Dozens of cats and dogs seeking refuge from the Los Angeles wildfires have been taken in by Best Friends Animal Society of Utah , with more expected to arrive soon. The animal welfare organization is working closely with its Los Angeles Pet Adoption Center to bring the animals to safety amid the ongoing devastation. On Wednesday, Jan. 8, 17 cats and dogs from the Pasadena Humane Society were transported to the Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab as the Eaton Fire began to pose a significant threat.
On Thursday, an additional 60 cats and 14 dogs arrived at the Kanab sanctuary, most of them from Best Friends' Los Angeles location. Another 40 cats were taken in on Friday, and 31 dogs are scheduled to arrive Saturday afternoon. Many of the animals will be relocated to the organization’s Salt Lake City location. With many pets being boarded at the Pasadena Humane Society while their families are under evacuation orders, Best Friends taking in these animals creates more space for Pasadena-area residents to keep their pets safe, a representative said.
