Dozens of cats and dogs seeking refuge from the Los Angeles wildfires have been taken in by Best Friends Animal Society of Utah, with more expected to arrive soon. The animal welfare organization is working closely with its Los Angeles Pet Adoption Center to bring the animals to safety amid the ongoing devastation.
On Wednesday, Jan. 8, 17 cats and dogs from the Pasadena Humane Society were transported to the Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab as the Eaton Fire began to pose a significant threat. On Thursday, an additional 60 cats and 14 dogs arrived at the Kanab sanctuary, most of them from Best Friends' Los Angeles location. Another 40 cats were taken in on Friday, and 31 dogs are scheduled to arrive Saturday afternoon. Many of the animals will be relocated to the organization’s Salt Lake City location.
Utah residents are now being asked to consider adopting or fostering, a critical part of this life-saving effort. Those unable to adopt or foster are encouraged to support the initiative by contributing to
