Barry Bull was charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the crash that killed 59-year-old Vincent Koehler.
OAKLAND — A Berkeley man has been sentenced to six months of house arrest as part of a plea agreement with Alameda County prosecutors over a 2021 collision that killed a pedestrian, court records show.
Barry Bull, 58, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter count in the 2021 death of 59-year-old Vincent Koehler, court records show. The sentence requires Bull to spend a year on probation after completing 180 days of house arrest, which can be reduced by 50 percent with good behavior, court records show.
Bull was also ordered to do 20 hours of community service, and pay a $220 fine, as well as victim restitution for an amount to be determined at a June court hearing, records show. Bull has been out of custody since he was charged in 2022 with a single misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter. Police said at the time that Bull drove into Koehler asThey said Bull smelled like alcohol and admitted to drinking alcohol the previous day, and that a blood/alcohol test showed his level at .037, about half of what is considered legally drunk. The plea deal also requires Bull to submit to drug and alcohol testing during his probation and house arrest, court records show.
