Alaska’s new congressman talks federal layoffs, the Trump Administration & Elon Musk , aviation safety & Denali’s name during wide-ranging interview, Congressman Nick Begich , R-Alaska, estimated about 100 Alaskans have lost their jobs as part of mass federal worker firings by the Trump Administration’s Department of Government Efficiency .
The congressman emphasized the congressional DOGE caucus, which he is a member of, is a bipartisan working group with both Democrat and Republican members — which he said aims to locate government spending waste, fraud, and abuse and put it on a more sustainable path. When asked about the amount of power held by Elon Musk as an unelected civilian, Begich cited Musk’s achievements in the private sector, calling him an “efficiency expert.”
