Cleveland beat Hershey 3-2 in Game 6 on Monday to tie the Eastern Conference Finals 3-3.

Updated: Jun. 11, 2024, 10:02 a.m.Hershey's Mike Vecchione takes a shot against Cleveland's Jet Greaves in game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals at the Giant Center, June 10, 2024. Vicki Vellios Briner | Special to PennLiveThe Bears’ 3-0 lead in their Eastern Conference Finals’ matchup with Cleveland is gone.Hershey lost the last two games in Cleveland by scores of 3-2 and 5-1 and the Bears could not protect a 2-1 lead in the final minute of Game 6.

Forward Joe Snively’s goal from close range that beat Monsters goalie Jet Greaves with 50 seconds left in the third period looked like a series-winner. But Cleveland forward Brendan Gaunce tied it 17 seconds later and Monsters defenseman Jake Christiansen won it with 2:29 left in overtime on a long shot that beat Hershey goalie Hunter Shepard.“Obviously, disappointed but we can’t dwell on it,” said Hershey forward Henrik Rybinski, who scored a second-period goal on Monday to tie the game 1-1.“Highs and lows of the game,” Hershey forward Mike Vecchione said of Monday’s shocking finish.

“You score late like that and your adrenaline’s pumping and 15 seconds later, it’s in the back of our net and we’re going to overtime again.”All three games in Hershey have been decided in overtime. The Bears won Games 1 and 2 by scores of 5-4 and 3-2, respectively but a major storyline has been Hershey’s inability to protect leads late in regulation.Game 1: Hershey led 4-2 but Cleveland scored twice in the final 1:23 of regulation.

“Obviously, a devastating but you gotta look past that and look forward to Game 7,” Vecchione said.Hershey was without defensemen Lucas Johansen and Aaron Ness and forward Pierrick Dube again on Monday night and speedy forward Ethen Frank, the team’s leader in playoff goals with nine, left Game 6 with an undisclosed injury early in the second period. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
