With students back in the classroom, school zone speed limits are back in effect and officials expect an increase in bike, pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic.
City officials are asking drivers to stay vigilant as San Antonio -area students are back in the classroom and school zone speed limits are back in effect. Last school year, San Antonio police issued over 6,000 citations for drivers speeding in a school zone. Police also issued 75 citations for passing a stopped school bus and about 200 citations for use of a wireless communication device in a school crossing zone/school property, according to the city.

Traffic fines increase when they are issued in a school zone. A first offense can carry a fine up to $1,250, the city said.
