Councilman Tony Oerlemans is being called out for a heated exchange that happened in late April
Brentwood City Councilmember Jovita Mendoza this week called for the censure of fellow Councilman Tony Oerlemans for his actions at a previous meeting.
Brentwood Councilman Tony Oerlemans becomes angry over a consent calendar item on a sound wall that was not pulled for discussion and gets into a heated exchange with Mayor Joel Bryant and later walks out on April 25, 2023. On Tuesday, several residents spoke about the incident calling for Oerlemans’ censure or resignation.
Flohr also said he was worried that Orelemans, a retired police officer, might be carrying a weapon. Although state concealed carry laws allow that with a permit, Flohr said he wanted to feel safe to speak at meetings and asked that the councilman voluntarily refrain from carrying a firearm to meetings though it was unclear if he actually had one.
