The Battleship Texas is prepared to be pushed out of its slip for its journey to a dry dock in Galveston for a major overhaul Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, in La Porte.The gangplank is long gone and workers are making the last preparations for a historic move of the Battleship Texas from her berth in La Porte.
Workers are on pace to start pulling the 27,000-ton battleship, the only dreadnought still standing, from her place near the San Jacinto Monument. Tugboats will tow Texas to Gulf Copper Galveston, across from Pier 21 on the island.
