This Saturday, at high noon, Rocco Ortenzio Stadium will host the rekindling of one of Pennsylvania’s most electrifying high school football rivalries.
Known by many names over the years — the Battle of Market Street, the Battle of the Burg, Market Street Madness, the City Championship — this showdown has been fueled over the years by legendary figures like Watters, Parsons, McCoy, Lansanah, Chaump, Rimpfel, Thomas, and more.
Though the rivalry took a pause after 2017, it’s now set to resume, moving from the heart of the city to the suburbs. But even the change in location won’t dampen the anticipation or the intensity of competition on game day. The Crusaders lead the series 20-15 since the Mid-Penn Conference was established. But with the last game long in the rearview mirror, these players will be looking to write their own history.
