Fairview Park, Ohio, has installed battery backups at major intersections to ensure traffic lights continue to function during power outages. This proactive measure aims to prevent accidents and keep traffic flowing smoothly.
FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (WOIO) - A new installment at major intersections in Fairview Park is designed to keep you and your family safe. In Fairview Park , battery backups have been installed at major intersections. When the power goes out, traffic lights will now continue to work for at least 24 hours. Fairview Park Police Chief Paul Shepard says the weather lately has caused power outages . And when that happens, problems arise which is why they are proactively preparing for the city’s next outage.
\“This will prevent someone from getting hurt and keep people moving. That’s our goal. It will keep traffic flowing as opposed to having everybody stop and go. And we’ve had some accidents. Some serious injuries and damage to property,” said Shepard. The new battery backups could come in handy as soon as Wednesday, when our 19 First Alert Weather Team is forecasting a storm threat. The city is also investing in foldable stop signs. Officers will place the foldable stop signs at intersections when traffic lights aren’t working. \“The big thing I want to stress is that if you come up to a light that has no power treat it like a four-way stop sign,” said Shepard
