Robert Pattinson's Batman thinking in The Batman
Following Superman's blockbuster debut, all eyes are on the DC Universe, particularly when it comes to casting the other half of the World's Finest, Batman. Though it has not been given a release date, the DCU's upcoming Dark Knight film is titled The Brave and the Bold and will be helmed by The Flash director Andy Muschietti.
Very few plot details are known, but the movie will reportedly follow Bruce Wayne/Batman along with his son Damian Wayne/Robin. Speaking with CinemaBlend, Muschietti addressed the widespread fan-casting, which has seen actors ranging from Alan Ritchson to Jonathan Bailey to Jensen Ackles tossed into the ring . The director noted that he is always"curious" about who audiences want to see in the role. Barbara Muschietti, his sister and producing partner, added:"I love our people, love our audiences, but in the end, you know, I think that the one thing that we get to do is to pick our cast." Notably, while the Muschiettis only confirmed seeing fan casts as opposed to taking them into consideration, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has been more direct in his response to similar questions."Do I have ideas about actors to play Batman?" saig the Guardians of the Galaxy director."Absolutely, I do. I have guys I like. I have guys that are at the top of the list, just like I had people that were at the top of the list for Superman." Addressing rumors that the role had already been cast or there were front-runners, he continued:"People can guess, and maybe they'll be right about certain things." However, Gunn implied that the creatives behind the scenes were looking at more than star power when picking the next Batman, quipping that"it's unlikely that Sylvester Stallone as Batman." Despite that stance, he did confirm that he had met with an actor"who's a pretty big star that wants to be Batman." Regardless, Gunn stated elsewhere that the three things The Brave and the Bold needs to get right are"the character himself, the writing, and the person who plays him." The Brave and the Bold has yet to line up a release date, though it is widely speculated for a 2028 debut. In addition to Muschietti directing, it will be written by Christina Hodson.
