Bastrop Mayor Ishmael Harris called the incident a scare for the community, saying an active shooter situation is not something people typically think about in the city. Wednesday afternoon rattled residents and city leaders after police said a man fired an AR-15-style rifle “indiscriminately” in the store lot.
Bastrop police said 25-year-old Kobe Lee Mosser pulled into the Home Depot parking lot on Hunters Crossing Boulevard and began shooting. Investigators believe multiple vehicles were hit, but no injuries have been reported. Bastrop Mayor Ishmael Harris called the incident a scare for the community, saying an active shooter situation is not something people typically think about in the city. “I don't think it's typical for any community, but definitely not something we think about here in Bastrop,” Harris said.“Thank God that he didn't hit anyone, and thank God that we didn't have to worry about our officers shooting someone or an innocent person losing their life,” he said. The FBI said it is aware of the shooting but is not investigating. The bureau referred questions to the Bastrop Police Department. Police Chief Vicky Steffanic said there is nothing further to release at this time.“Any time that there's something that's brought out like that, it sends the community into panic, especially with the way of the world and active shooters as they are,” he said.Cody Wilkinson, who said he was at the store a couple hours before the shooting, said, "Just to think that could have happened a couple hours earlier, that's crazy. But I mean, thank God nobody was hurt though." According to court records, Mosser has prior charges for criminal misdemeanors in Montgomery County of south Texas.“It's great and reassuring that our police force has the training and has gone through the training to be able to handle a situation like that,” he said. “Everyone was confident in what our police department was able to do.”“It's great and reassuring that our police force has the training and has gone through the training to be able to handle a situation like that,” he said. “Everyone was confident in what our police department was able to do.”We've reached out to the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office for Mosser’s mug shot and official charges.
