Author’s note: This is the first post of my new weekly column titled Barely Relevant. This will be where I talk about whatever I want but always find my way back to the Seattle Seahawks. I’d like to talk about Pete Carroll’s absence from Seattle’s sideline during our preseason opener against the Chargers last Saturday. Some of you couldn’t help but notice it in various comments across Field Gulls, and I did, too. But first, I’d like to talk about a big famous book called Ulysses.
Did anyone else miss Pete Carroll on Saturday? Just a little? If I’m sticking to my literary analogy where Mike Macdonald is James Joyce, then – for me – Pete Carroll is Japanese author Haruki Murakami. I’ve read him since I was a young boy – and he always brings his perfect blend of esoteric mystery. I always know that I’m going to get that. And I’m here for it. For you, Pete may be Stephen King, Michael Connelly, or Dan Brown.
