DHAKA: Bangladesh has extended the ongoing shutdown of the public transport to April 11 to contain the spread of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
Bangladeshi Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who is also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League party, made the announcement in a video message from his office in Dhaka on Saturday .
To combat Covid-19, Bangladesh had earlier declared a 10-day public transport shutdown effective from March 26 to April 4.No passenger can travel by goods-carrying vehicles, the minister added.With nine more new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of the cases increased to 70 in the country. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
