Beverly Ortega, a contestant on the hit dating show 'The Bachelor', revealed the reason behind her unexpected departure from the show during the February 10th episode. Ortega detailed her experience with a sudden bout of illness that led to emergency surgery for appendicitis. She shared her experience on the 'Bachelor Happy Hour' podcast, explaining that while the physical recovery was relatively straightforward, the emotional toll was more profound.

Bachelor' fans were left with more questions than answers when one contestant left the dating competition without explanation during the Feb. 10 episode. Now, she's breaking down what really happened. Beverly Ortega , a 30-year-old insurance salesperson, was selected for a solo date with Grant Ellis early on in the episode. But then she suddenly exited the show before she got the chance to go on the romantic excursion.

Later on in the episode, another contestant named Parisa Shifteh briefly alluded to Ortega's exit during a confessional interview. “Today was supposed to be Beverly’s one-on-one with Grant. But yesterday morning she was very sick. And today we found out that she will not be coming back to the house,' Shifteh said. Since Ortega had left the show, Ellis invited three other women on a smaller group date and addressed her departure by saying she had to go home. On Feb. 10, Ortega broke her silence on her Instagram story, writing, 'Getting so many questions about why I had to leave.' She revealed what happened on the 'Bachelor Happy Hour' podcast, hosted by Bachelor Nation alums and married couple Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt. What did Beverly Ortega say about her exit from the show? While appearing on the “Bachelor Happy Hour” episode that dropped Feb. 11, Ortega offered up more details about the illness that forced her to leave the show. She set the scene by saying she took a nap when the other women left the house for their group date. 'I wake up (and) my stomach’s hurting. I’m like, 'OK, maybe I just need to go to the bathroom or the food didn’t sit well.' And I started throwing up,' she recalled. Ortega said she was in 'excruciating pain' and continued to throw up for 12 hours. 'I wasn’t sure if it was food poisoning. I thought maybe, and my whole stomach was hurting. So it’s not like one side was hurting. I didn’t think it was anything serious,' she said. After going to the hospital and being administered morphine, Ortega's pain went away but she got some sobering news: She had appendicitis and needed emergency surgery. “I am a crier. I am emotional. (But I) did not cry one time. I was like, ‘OK, my family isn’t here. My friends aren’t here. I’m about to have major surgery on an organ,’” she recalled. “I already, in 2018, got my gallbladder removed. Now my appendix is being removed. I’m like, losing organs left and right.” Since it wasn't safe for Ortega to get on a flight home to New York, she had the surgery in California. Her mother then flew out to take her home. For Ortega, the emotional part of recovery was harder than the physical aspect. 'Honestly, it took me, like, a month and a half to recover emotionally. Physically, obviously, I was OK but emotionally I was not. I left with the 'what if.' Obviously we were building a connection. He saw and felt exactly what I was seeing and feeling. And I know they didn’t show a lot of our moments, but we did have a lot of cute little moments,' she said. Ortega said she didn't get to say goodbye to Ellis and hopes the production crew told him why she had to leave. Although she's upset about cutting her 'Bachelor' journey so short, she now sees that it was the best decision given the circumstances. 'I wanted to stay on, but I think it was best for me to just go home and recover because, as you know, eventually they start flying places, so it wasn’t safe or smart for me to fly as I’m recovering from a surgery,' she explained. Looking to the future, Ortega isn't ruling out an appearance on 'Bachelor in Paradise' if the opportunity arises. 'I feel like if I would have made it further, probably wouldn’t have considered 'Paradise,' but because I didn’t make it that far, yes, because I do want to get married. I’m 30 years old. I’m ready for kids and family. I’ve always been a relationship type of girl,' she said
