On Tuesday, the music world mourned the loss of singer and songwriter Dean Maloney, known for his time on NBC's The Voice. Maloney died by suicide, with the coroner listing the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head. Born in Traverse City, Michigan, in 1981, Maloney's musical journey began at the age of 9 when he picked up the guitar, violin, cello, and drums. After ten years in a band, he embarked on a solo career, culminating in the release of an album produced by Sean O'Dwyer, whose credits include collaborations with Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Emerson Drive, Blink-182, and more. Between 2010 and 2013, Maloney toured extensively, promoting his album, before auditioning for The Voice. His blind audition performance of Journey's 'Lights' earned him a four-chair turn, and he ultimately joined Blake Shelton's team. Maloney progressed through two battle rounds and secured a spot among Shelton's top five finalists. During his time on the show, he released singles like 'Lights,' 'What's Love Got To Do With It' (Tina Turner), 'Easy' (Rascal Flatts), and 'Second Chance' (Shinedown). He returned to the show for the season finale. Maloney continued to pursue his musical career after The Voice, working as a studio musician, engineer, and producer while also releasing solo material. Some of his later releases included 'Don't Put Me in a Box,' 'Love With Nowhere to Go,' 'Sleepwalk,' and 'Toast to Tonight.
