SAN DIEGO – The average price of a gallon of gasoline in San Diego County increased to $6.039, the highest amount of the year.

The American Automobile Association reports that the average price of gas in San Diego County has risen 19 of the past 21 days. Many critics of California’s Democrat policies say the war on fossil fuels and the “green energy revolution” have resulted in sky-high prices. Elected Democrats blame oil companies, but the oil companies they blame are the same companies operating in the other 49 states.

Chairman of San Diego Tax Fighters, Richard Rider, joined KUSI’s Good Morning San Diego to explain the real reason our state has such high gas prices. Rider told KUSI, “the problems are that on a national and state level, governments are stifling oil production, raising taxes, imposing expensive mandates, and are blocking oil pipelines and essentially outlawing any new refineries. CA hasn’t had a new refinery built since the 1970’s.

For example, Californians are paying $1.30 in taxes and fees for every gallon of gasoline purchased. This amount has increased from $1.18 in 2019.
