Authorities say the officer responded to Robert Battaglia’s home at 12 Maxwell St. on Friday evening. Battaglia failed to secure his dog and it ran outside.
Two East Rockaway men are facing charges for attacking a Nassau County police officer after an incident involving a pitbull at their home.
The dog proceeded to attack the officer and bite his right leg. Authorities say he fired two shots during the attack, which struck the ground. As the officer returned to his vehicle, police say Battaglia and his roommate Stephen Seal approached the patrol car and began pounding on it. “Mr. Battaglia opened the passenger door, reached inside and started to fight with the officer," said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. "He then tried to take the officer’s bag on the front seat. There was a struggle to keep possession of the bag. The officer was able to put the car in drive and go forward, breaking loose of Mr. Battaglia and Seal."
Battaglia has been charged with two counts of assault, attempted robbery, menacing and obstructing governmental administration.
