This is the first case of measles in New York State outside of New York City in 2024, and the third case in the state this year.
Nassau County Health Department reported its first case of measles for the year on Friday. According to the New York State Department of Health, the patient is an unvaccinated young child who lives in Nassau County. The Department says they are closely monitoring this case and urges all New Yorkers, especially young children, who have not had the Measles-Mumps-Rubella immunization to get immunized as soon as possible.
For example, there were six cases in 2015 and one in 2016. There were none in 2020, 2021, or 2022 during the COVID-19 emergency when travel was limited, and there was one in 2023.In a statement to FOX 5 NY, NYC Health said that the cases were both related to international travel, but were not related to each other.
