A vehicle chase that started in Ashtabula County ended up as a search in a wooded area that lasted several hours in Geauga County.

Cliff Pinckard, cleveland.com

According to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle trying to escape from deputies in Ashtabula County entered Geauga County on Phillips Road in Thompson Township at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The two male suspects in the vehicle drove into a wooded area and then fled on foot as Ashtabula deputies chased them.

At about 8:30 a.m., a hunter stumbled upon one of the suspects, who ran to a home on Rock Creek Road, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect asked a resident in the home to use the phone, again claiming his car had broken down. The resident allowed the suspect to use a phone in the home’s garage.

About 15 deputies, a drone team, a K9 unit, and U.S. marshals responded and tracked the suspect for several hours through rugged terrain before finally catching the suspect on Barrett Road, which is in Ashtabula County.
