It's hard to believe that right now portions of both of Austin’s major roadways, I-35 and Loop 1, also known as Mopac, are undergoing major renovation at the same time, and now local highway planners are looking at additional work they feel needs to be done to South Mopac.
The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is hosting the meeting at Austin High School, 1715 West Cesar Chavez Street, to explain how the improvements might benefit getting Austin ISD students to and from school. They also expect to hear from the public about how the road work involved might get in the way.Mopac South Project
This project has actually been in the works for more than a decade now. It's been stalled though by the COVID pandemic and an unsuccessful environmental lawsuit. AMany neighbors of South Mopac near environmentally sensitive Barton Creek and the greenbelt around it are hoping the proposed South Mopac Expansion takes steps to protect the creek and the Edwards Aquifer which flows in the same area.
