A topic on the agenda for next week’s Alameda Unified School District Board of Education meeting is building relationships between families, students and staff to ensure that all of the district’s campuses are supportive, inclusive and safe.

Above, families from Alameda’s Love Elementary School are gathered last June at Books Inc. to hear students read from “Thank You,” a book they wrote about the importance of kindness. Schools are back in session this week after a much needed break for all, and Alameda Unified School District officials are happy to report that our campuses weathered the deluge of rain relatively well. We hope that everyone in the AUSD community stayed dry, cozy and not too stir-crazy during this extended stretch of rain! First, at the Dec. 9 AUSD Board of Education meeting, Board Member Ryan LaLonde became the board’s new president, Board Member Heather Little became its new vice-president, and Board Member Jennifer Williams became the clerk. Second, this year’s first Board of Education meeting for 2026 will be next week on Tuesday. Topics on next week’s agenda include the naming process for the new Encinal Junior & Senior High School athletic field and the AUSD’s Local Control and Accountability Plan , a state-mandated plan that describes how a district’s goals, actions, services and expenditures support positive student outcomes. Next week’s presentation will explore the AUSD’s LCAP Goal 2, which focuses on building relationships between families, students and staff to ensure that all of our campuses are supportive, inclusive and safe. Representatives from Wood Middle and Earhart Elementary schools will be in attendance to discuss the relationship-building efforts at their schools. Tuesday’s meeting next week will take place at City Hall starting at 6:30 pm and will be live-streamed via Zoom. The agenda and Zoom details are available on the AUSD Board Agendas & Minutes webpage at Starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday this week, the AUSD will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Encinal Junior & Senior High’s new athletic field, and next week, transitional kindergarten information nights will be held Tuesday and Wednesday . Kindergarten information night will be held next week on Wednesday .
