The Aurora City Council recently approved a $175,000 payment to the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The payment is the yearly one the city makes to the bureau, and comes from the hotel-motel tax the city charges on all rooms rented in the city. The city has been making the $175,000 payment since the agreement with the visitors bureau was last revamped in 2015. The city and the visitors bureau have had a relationship since 1987. When the agreement was revamped in 2015, the city began renewals every two years.

One of the key attractions the Aurora area has is the Fox Valley Park District’s Stuart Sports Complex on Jericho Road, which has become one of the Midwest’s top destinations for youth and amateur sports tournaments. The 380-acre complex in Montgomery welcomed more than 660,000 players, coaches and spectators to weekend baseball and soccer tournaments during Stuart’s 2022 athletic season, which runs April 1 through Oct. 31, according to statistics released earlier this month.
