A potential landscape-altering Seattle City Council election will go to voters this week.
Seattle City Council electionOn Wednesday, King County will mail ballots to homes, with seven different council seats up for election. Election Day is Nov. 7.Only three incumbents are seeking re-election, and a fourth, Teresa Mosqueda, is attempting to win a King County Council seat, which would mean the new council could fill an eighth seat depending on the outcome of the Mosqueda race.
Perhaps no race is as heated as the downtown district, which includes Andrew Lewis. He was under 50% of the primary vote and has faced stiff criticism over his votes regarding policing, drug possession and downtown revitalization. In District 2, incumbent Tammy Morales is facing challenger Tanya Woo, and in District 6, incumbent Dan Strauss is facing Fremont Chamber of Commerce President Pete Hanning. Both Morales and Strauss were over the 50% threshold in the primary and appear well positioned for re-election. Homelessness, crime, economic recovery and affordable housing have been listed a key issues in this election cycle.
