An Auburn man has been sentenced for defrauding an elderly woman out of over half a million dollars.
AUBURN, Ala. - An Auburn man has learned his fate for defrauding an elderly woman out of more than half a million dollars.received a 15-year sentence, with two years to be served in prison and a 10-year probationary period. He was also ordered to pay $611,292.65 in restitution to the 91-year-old widow.
Officials stated that Langford’s criminal activity only stopped after suspicious family members alerted law enforcement. He is said to have embezzled more than $611,000 from the victim’s account for his personal gain. “Langford’s sinister actions, while he was appointed as fiduciary to take care of his elderly victim, are reprehensible in a way that is difficult for many people to grasp,” said Alabama Securities Director Amanda Ingram. “Everyone needs to be extremely vigilant in helping protect their elderly family members, friends, and clients from becoming victims.”
Records show that Langford was formerly a registered broker. However, he has been barred by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and is currently out on bond.
