Auburn may step up enforcement of its homeless camping ban as a way to better protect parks and other facilities around the city.

A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of Grants Pass v. Johnson overturned a previous ruling that gave cities more authority to prohibit camping even when no alternate shelter is available. "People are camping in our wetlands and digging into the habitat there, cutting down the trees,” Hay told city leaders during a study session presentation on Aug. 26.
