A light freeze generally won't do significant damage to pipes in your home, but as temps drop to 20 degrees or below, major problems can arise.

On Wednesday morning, San Antonio dropped down to 35 degrees, recording the city’s lowest temperature since mid-February. However, San Antonio has yet to see temperatures at or below the freezing mark of 32 degrees so far this winter. However, we’re still a couple weeks away from San Antonio ’s coldest part of the year, which stretches from late December through early February, a time in which most of the city’s freezes occur, according to National Weather Service records.

The problem can be worsened if the power is out, like it was during the historic statewide February 2021 freeze. Without proper heating in your home, your plumbing doesn’t stand much of a chance. Outdoor pipes Outdoor plumbing is much more susceptible to freezing because it is exposed to the subfreezing air. Outdoor faucets, water sprinklers, swimming pool supply lines, as well as pipes that run along exterior walls are the most at risk.
