Mauricio Dubón is one game away from tying the Houston Astros' franchise record for...

Houston Astros' Mauricio Dubon celebrates next to Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes, top, after hitting a triple during the first inning of a baseball game Monday, April 24, 2023, in St. Petersburg, Fla., so he may have stressed himself out the previous two games when he waited until the final two innings to secure the hit that extended his career-high streak. If so, he had a stress-free Monday.

The Astros second baseman swung at the first pitch of the game against Rays starter Taj Bradley and sent it to left-center for a triple. The hit extended his streak to 18 games, which is the longest in the majors this season, topping the 17-game stretch by the Phillies' Bryson Stott. Dubón is one game shy from tying the Astros' record for longest hitting streak before May 1. Bob Watson hit safely in 19 straight games from April 9-27 in 1973. The longest hitting streak in Astros history is 30 games by Willy Taveras in 2006.Dubón, who began the season splitting time with David Hensley at second base until Jose Altuve can return from a fractured thumb, has hit himself into an everyday spot in the lineup, at least until Altuve returns.
