Atlanta Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr., left, celebrates beside Houston Astros' Mauricio Dubon after hitting a double in the sixth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Atlanta. ATLANTA — For the third straight day, the Astros entered the sixth inning or later trailing the Braves. For the third straight day, Houston went on the attack in the late innings to complete a sweep of the Braves, who entered the weekend with the best record in the National League.
The Astros, who have won four straight, were undone by Max Fried, who shut them out for 6 2/3 innings, allowing just three hits. But, just as they've done all series, the Astros jumped on the Atlanta bullpen as soon as they got a chance. In the ninth, the Astros put two runners on with two outs when Julks was called on to pinch-hit for Martin Maldonado. After falling behind in the count 1-2, the University of Houston delivered the go-ahead run with a single up the middle. Mauricio Dubón was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Alex Bregman followed with a two-run single for some insurance.Cristian Javier had his best outing of the season, striking out 10 and giving up just one earned run on three hits in six innings.
