JUPITER, Fla. — One concern always shrouded Luis Garcia’s breakout rookie year. Garcia had not thrown more than 108 ⅔ innings in any of his four previous professional seasons. He exceeded the workload and provoked a persistent question: how long could he continue?

The answer: however long Houston needed him. Garcia threw 155 ⅓ regular-season frames followed by 15 ⅔ across five postseason appearances. He showed no noticeable signs of fatigue or wear. His clunker in Game 6 of the World Series resulted more from poor execution than fatigue. Garcia did not slow down despite a perceived innings limit. He plans to keep the pursuit this season.

“That’s what I want: throw more,” Garcia said on Sunday. “I think I can do that. Hopefully I’ll throw a lot this year.”
