Astros' Lance McCullers Jr. set to face hitters on Sunday
Injured Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. will throw another bullpen on Sunday morning in what the team hopes could be the final session before he faces hitters in a live batting practice.
McCullers had initially planned to throw a live BP on Saturday, but that day’s 3 p.m. start time against the A’s combined with the scheduled 1 p.m. start on Sunday contributed to the Astros’ decision to alter his schedule. McCullers has yet to pitch for Houston this season while he rehabs a forearm strain. He only within the last week began throwing all of his pitches off the mound.
“We felt we might have been rushing him a little bit, or he might’ve been rushing himself,” Baker said. “So we decided that he’s going to do tomorrow.”
