Houston Astros Jose Altuve hits a single during the fifth inning of an MLB baseball game at Minute Maid Park on Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Houston., but Astros manager Dusty Baker said"there's a good chance" his second baseman will be back in the lineup Wednesday.
Altuve, who said he felt something in his oblique area after taking an awkward swing during Friday's game, has been taking part in pregame activities with his teammates, including going through a normal on-field batting practice session Tuesday, butAltuve missed the first 43 games of the season after. Since returning on May 19, he has hit .286 with an .888 OPS in 11 games.
As he has done throughout Altuve's injury, Mauricio Dubón started at second base and hit leadoff. Dubón leads the team with a .290 average, but his .691 OPS is sixth on the team. Michael Brantley, who still hasn't played in a big league game since having shoulder surgery last summer, is with the team and has been taking swings off a tee. The next step is for him to hit on the field, but Baker didn't have a timeline for when that might happen. Brantley appeared close to returning last month, but wasStarting pitchers Lance McCullers and Jose Urquidy, who both are attempting to return from injuries, did not make the trip.
