'A legend': Astros' Jeremy Peña inspired as Albert Pujols pushes for 700
Astros shortstop and fellow Dominican Jeremy Peña has high regard for Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols, who is two homers away from his pursuit of 700 home runs.Albert Pujols’ pursuit of 700 home runs is captivating the sport and a slew of young Dominican players who grew up idolizing the future Hall of Famer. One of them came face-to-face with Pujols in a batting cage last winter during a day in the Dominican winter league.
“He called me over and just started chatting with him,” Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña said. “He’s such a nice dude.” Pujols entered Sunday’s slate of games two homers away from becoming the fourth man in major league history to hit 700 home runs. “A lot of players , not just Dominican players. Albert is a great in this game. He’s been great for so long and he’s just someone everyone sort of gravitates toward. He’s an even better person than a baseball player.”
