Verlander was reinstated from the injured list after a 17-day absence.
Martinez struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief during Thursday's 5-2 win against the A's, lowering his ERA to 2.09 and WHIP to 1.034 in 38 2/3 major league innings this season. Nothing about Martinez's body of work has merited a demotion, but he is the only reliever in Houston's bullpen with more than one minor league option season remaining. Phil Maton, Bryan Abreu and Ryne Stanek are the only other relievers eligible to be optioned to the minor leagues.
