Ashford High School guard Jakena Curl has signed to play for Enterprise State Community College. Despite her small stature, Curl's speed, quickness, and determination make her a valuable addition to the team.
David Mundee In recruiting Ashford’s Jakena Curl , Enterprise State Community College women’s basketball coach George Scott is counting on the adage, “Big things come in small packages.”
Curl, a five-year starter and a six-year member on the team at Ashford, showed her abilities defined her more so than her lack of height in her high school career. She finished her career with 1,127 points and 534 assists. She helped Ashford to a 72-48 record during her five years as a starter, including a 21-8 record with a sub-regional postseason appearance during her junior year of 2022-23.
She said she began to visualize playing at the next level as her career began to progress at Ashford.Enterprise State’s Scott referred to Curl as a sparkplug type of player. “She is a great playmaker.” Thomas said. “We can give her the ball at any time and she can go get us a hoop , but she doesn’t only do that as she is able to assist other players . She lets everybody know where they need to be and what they need to be doing. She also a great defensive player – just an all-around player for us.”
