Pennsylvania Representative Christina Sappey has proposed House Bill 813, which would create a permanent office of the Child Advocate. The role of the current child advocate was created by a 2019 Executive Order signed by Governor Wolf. At this time, the position is dependent on the administration. Currently, while the child advocate in Pennsylvania can review issues and make recommendations, Governor Shapiro's Office has said the child advocate does not have the authority to investigate complaints. That authority would have to be granted through legislation.
"I am hopeful," Rep. Sappey said. "The political landscape over the last 20 years has been different."
