An armed robber entered the home of a Southfield , Michigan, rabbi during a dinner with Jewish students from the University of Michigan Wednesday night, which was also the first night of Rosh Hashanah , according to anThe Southfield Police Department identified the robber in a press release as a man in his late teens or early twenties who had a handgun and yelled “I’m taking everything, give me everything.

University President Santa Ono said in the announcement that the school has increased security around campus and neighboring areas. Southfield is nearly 40 miles away from Ann Arbor. Ono added that “so many of us” need “kindness” and “respect” in these “challenging times.” Rosh Hashanah ends on Friday, three days before the one-year anniversary of Hamas’s Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,200 people and taking of more than 240 hostages.
