Ariton's Tyler, Wicksburg's Glover earn ASWA honors; 30 area players receive all-state accolades

State champion Ariton had four players selected all-state and the Dothan Eagle coverage area had a player and hitter of year in the ASWA all-state voting.

DAVID MUNDEE The success of winning the AHSAA Class 2A state championship has helped Ariton earn a Wiregrass-best representation on the Alabama Sports Writers Association all-state baseball team released Saturday morning.

Tyler was chosen POY based off stats furnished before Ariton’s state semifinal series and state championship series. At the time, he was hitting .413 with an on-base percentage of .519 and an on-base slugging percentage of 1.098. Senn, over 11 pitching appearances, amassed a 6-2 pitching record with a 2.69 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 53 strikeouts.

In addition to Ian Senn, second-team honorees from the area were Enterprise’s Brady Richardson and Cayden Boutwell in Class 7A, Headland’s Trey Scott and Wyatt Shelley in Class 5A, Dale County’s Kade Smith in Class 4A, Opp’s Colby Ballard, Houston Academy’s Cam Dyer, New Brockton’s Payton Green, and Providence Christian’s Chapel Stickler and Porter Dykes in Class 3A plus G.W. Long’s Will Bush and Pike Liberal Arts’ Luke Barron in Class 2A.

Drew Colon Wicksburg, junior pitcher/shortstop/center fielder : 8-0 record, a 1.33 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 114 strikeouts. Cayden Boutwell, Enterprise, junior right fielder : 361 batting average , .526 on base-percentage, 1.210 ops, 5 homers, 11 doubles, 31 RBI, 35 runs, 19-of-22 and 30 walks. Colby Ballard, Opp, senior pitcher/first baseman : 6-1 record, 1.50 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 49 strikeouts.
