Arcane has been renewed for season 2, but fans may have a while to wait for more episodes of the popular League of Legends prequel series.
After its showstopping first season, it’s no surprise that Arcane will return for season 2, and details on the voice cast and other updates continue to be revealed leading up to its release. The Emmy-winning show registered massive viewing numbers on Netflix and received a lavish critical reception, with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to the laborious nature of the animation, which beautifully combines 2D & 3D styles, the show takes a long time to make.
Arcane’s theme song, "Enemy" by Imagine Dragons and JID, reached the top five on the charts in the U.S. upon its release a week prior to season one’s air date. The song’s prominence built hype for the show and went a long way in establishing the delicate tonal balance struck by Arcane’s dueling sensibilities; "Enemy" is at once grounded and epic, blending the sweeping instrumentals of fantasy with a gritty rock sound.
Yet in the same interview, Laurent gave another reason for the wait, one which gives hope for the continued quality of Arcane as the show continues into season 2: “You want the quality; we just don’t want to rush, and so that takes time." It’s gratifying to see that the team behind Arcane is not interested in quickly churning out a new, unfinished season in order to meet the sudden demand. The first season of Arcane took six years to make, so the creators are no strangers to patience.
Arcane Season 2 Story Details Arcane season 2’s story has been kept closely under wraps, but the implications of season 1’s finale and the information that’s been made public can provide strong indications of what’s to come. The first season culminates in the death of Jinx’s father figure Silco, causing an anguished Jinx to launch a hextech missile at Piltover council, just as they are on the verge of voting for Zaun’s independence.
