The next Apple Watch, doubtless called Apple Watch Series 7, is about to land
Together, that means the display will measure as much as 1.9 inches on the diagonal on the larger Watch. As Gurman says, “That’s only about an 8% jump diagonally, but when looking at screen area as a whole, that’s probably between 20% and 30% larger.”But that display is “causing production headaches”, apparently.
My belief, and Gurman’s, is that the first of these options, delaying the announcement, is unlikely. So, that September 14 reveal still seems to fit. Beyond that, Gurman specifies this: “I’m led to believe that we’ll see an announcement during the usual September event alongside the iPhone, but there will be a mix of the models shipping late or in small quantities. That shouldn’t be too unfamiliar to those who witnessed the original Apple Watch launch in 2015.”
Let’s put that in context. Back in 2015, some models were scarce or delayed, for example the stainless steel mode in space black finish. The reports I hear now make this sound different. Instead of one metal finish and color being tricky to make, it may be that many Watches are hitting the same production hiccups.
On the other hand, solving such problems will be the laser-focus of everyone involved right now, and this can mean solutions present themselves much more quickly than we imagine.
