A federal judge sided with Apple on Friday, finding the iPhone-maker’s developer restrictions and 30% commission for digital goods and services don’t violate the antitrust law

U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple doesn’t have to allow Epic Games and other developers to use cheaper payment systems. | Patrick Semansky/AP PhotoA federal judge sided with Apple on Friday, finding the iPhone-maker’s developer restrictions and 30 percent commission for digital goods and services don’t violate the antitrust law.

U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple doesn’t have to allow Epic Games and other developers to use cheaper payment systems. Apple can also keep its App Store as the sole download method for iPhones and iPads, she said, rejecting a request the company be forced to allow other app stores onto its devices. Such a move could have significantly cut the iPhone-maker’s profits.

Gonzalez Rogers ruled, however, that Apple's restrictions that prohibit developers from telling customers that cheaper options exist violate California state law and order the iPhone-maker to eliminate those contractual provisions.
