Mireille Enos as Celia Boyd in For All Mankind
Apple TV's sci-fi drama For All Mankind is about to return for its fifth season, and it's already earning positive reviews from critics. With just days to go until its March 27 premiere, For All Mankind season 5 has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a solid 86% score.
While there are only a handful of reviews so far, critics are calling the new installment wonderful, tense and empathetic, with strong performances from the cast. ScreenRant's Ben Gibbons gave For All Mankind season 5 an 8 out of 10 and called it one of the best sci-fi shows. By comparison, the first season currently has a 75% critic score, which shot up to a perfect 100% rating for its second season. For All Mankind season 3 received a 94%, while season 4 once again had a perfect score of 100%. Every installment so far is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, a pattern that will continue if the upcoming fifth season keeps its solid rating in the days to come. Created by Star Trek's Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, For All Mankind debuted in 2019 as a space opera that tells an alternate history of the space race. Each season moves the plot forward to a different decade, with the show, up until now, taking place in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. For All Mankind season 5 will be set in the 2010s, following the action-packed fourth-season finale in which the crew succeeded in its attempt to move the Goldilocks asteroid into Mars' orbit. The finale ended by teasing the next time jump to the 2010s. Joel Kinnaman, Wrenn Schmidt, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña and Edi Gathegi are among the many cast members of For All Mankind, which is produced by Moore, Wolpert, Nedivi, Maril Davis, Seth Gordon and Naren Shankar. The series has won several awards over the years, including Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Programming and Outstanding Emerging Media Program at the Creative Arts Emmys, Best Fantasy Television Series at the Saturn Awards, and the PGA Innovation Award at the Producers Guild of America Awards. It also received a Best Drama Series nomination at the Critics' Choice Awards. The three co-creators aren't just stopping at For All Mankind, which is being expanded into an entire franchise. On the day that the season 5 finale is released , Apple TV will also premiere the first two episodes of an eight-episode spinoff called Star City, which will tell the story of For All Mankind from the point of view of the Soviet Union.
