Apple TV is building out Monsterverse lore in an exciting way on the small screen, and the streaming service's biggest sci-fi series could be setting up two films in the same season. When it comes to kaijus, fans have been well-served in the past few years.
Among the Monsterverse's projects are multiple Godzilla and Kong movies, all with impeccable CGI and exciting fighting scenes. If audiences are looking for more character-driven narratives, then they can either get that through Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Apple TV sci-fi series that explores Monarch's foundation and the organization's work through the years, and the non-Monsterverse franchise started by Godzilla: Minus One. Now, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is making big strides in catching up with the movies. Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2's Latest Episode Was A Big Step For Apex Warning! In the movies, the shadowy organization is directly involved with the creation of Mechagodzilla. Apple TV's Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place years before Mechagodzilla was introduced in the Monsterverse, with the show exploring Apex's growth. Now, in its latest episode, the sci-fi series saw Apex take a major step forward. After May learned that Apex wanted to use inhibitor chips to control Titans, which they could do for a brief time, Apex tried to do that on a large scale in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 5. The organization deployed a drone that shot Titan X, the sci-fi series' main kaiju of season 2, with the technology to control it. At first, it seemed like the move would work. However, Titan X resisted and had the help of the scarabs that followed it to sever the damaged limb and escape Apex's grasp. While the company's plan was unsuccessful, May made it clear that she needed more time to properly calibrate her code and the inhibitor chip to control a beast like Titan X. After failing, she knows exactly how to make it right. How The Apple TV Sci-Fi Series Could Be Setting Up Two Monsterverse Movies At Once After watching the latest episode of Monarch, I could not help but think of how it could affect two Monsterverse movies. In 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong, it was revealed that Apex created Mechagodzilla, using King Ghidorah's skull to forge a psionic link between pilot and machine. Apex's experiments in the Apple TV series seem like the first step towards making that a reality. However, more than setting up a movie that audiences have already watched, I'm convinced that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 might play a key role in establishing Godzilla x Kong: Supernova's story. In the 2021 movie, the organization failed with its plan to build an anti-Titan weapon from scratch.
