An appeals court has upheld the life-without-parole sentence handed down to a Mobile man who killed a woman in 1980 when he was 17 years old.
A jury found Labarron Sim Miller guilty of capital murder after determining that he broke into the home of Geraldine Hayles and strangled her to death in front of her 8-year-old granddaughter.
But after a hearing in 2021, a Mobile County Circuit Court judge again sentenced Miller to life in prison without parole. Miller, now 60, appealed, arguing that the judge misapplied the facts of the case to the law. But the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals disagreed.
