An expert described the 1930s Art Deco piece as magnificent and pointed out that its features make it an unusual piece of jewellery
An Antiques Roadshow guest admitted she was in tears after learning the true value of a diamond brooch that once belonged to her grandmother. The woman took the stunning piece to be assessed by the BBC show's experts in Morayshire, Scotland.
Expert Susan Rumfitt identified it as an Art Deco piece from the 1930s, calling it "magnificent". She said the diamonds were a "modern brilliant cut". She noted the brooch was "unusual" as it was one brooch rather than two separate clips connected together, as was the style of the time, the Mirror reports.
"When we get to the 1930s the style of jewellery it was very similar to the 20s in regards to being bold and impressive as we're seeing here, but we've moved away from colour and also concentrating on diamonds as well, which is quite extraordinary considering that 1929 we had the Wall Street crash and the depression."
She asked the woman if she had ever thought about how many carats were in the weight of the diamonds. The guest, who guessed three, amazed to discover the weight was 14 carats.
