The Antioch Police Department in the San Francisco Bay Area, under federal investigation for racist and sexist text messages, has agreed to hire a consultant to update its policies, procedures, and training on various issues over five years. The agreement, announced by the U.S. Department of Justice, mandates the department to review and update its practices on non-discriminatory policing, use of force, hiring and promotions, and discipline among other areas.

Los mensajes de texto, intercambiados entre miembros del Departamento de Policía de Antioch entre 2019 y 2022, salieron a la luz en 2023 como parte de una investigación federal en curso del departamento. Los mensajes incendiarios contenían lenguaje derogatorio, racista, homofóbico y sexualmente explícito. Los agentes se jactaban de fabricar pruebas y golpear a sospechosos.
